Kaziranga National Park
- What is the larger story all about?
Why is that every morning I wake up and the only thing I want to do is go for a drive inside the Kaziraga National Park?
Why is that every night when I am trying to fall asleep, I dream about the birds which I have yet to see?
What mystic connections do i have with this amazing place that I never tire of going inside the park - at least twice a day?
Why is that if I cannot show a lifer to a birder inside the park, I feel hopeless and depressed?
The ANSWER my friends is "BLOWING IN THE WIND...............
Of all the ranges at KNP - if i were to rate them in terms of diversity of wildlife and forest types (not that i am an expert rating individual) I would rate them as Agoratoli followed by Burhaphar, Bagori and Kohora.
KNP is not only about the pre-historic one-horned rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis) - though one can never ever have enough of this marvelous animal - its massive strength oozing out of its enormous bulk, the absolute HUNK image it projects, its grace and alas its simplicity, the simplicity of pre-historic times which attracts the poachers from all over to mercilessly murder this wonderful creation of GOD.
But then as i have said, KNP is not only about the rhinos. It is also about the Tigers (Panthera tigris) of which Kaziranga boasts of a sizable number.
Where else would you come across the following Nat Geo moment?
We were always led to believe that the Tiger is supreme in the ecological balance. No animals dare stay near a Tiger. Then why did we see what we are seeing above?
Was it that something went wrong with the position of the stars that particular moment?
Was it that the Rhinos grazing ahead of the Tiger or the daredevilry of the rhino swimming across was a show of numerical strength?
Was it that the rhinos knew something about the tiger that we do not know?
Well there are questions and questions?
Let us leave that to another day.
But as I have been continuously stressing that KNP is not only about the Rhino or the Tiger? Then what is it all about.
We will try to unravel the secrets of KNP in the days to come.
